Vince Papale, Invincible Interview (about Mark) By Kyle Braun
UGO
UGO: On the DVD, you can really see that you became great friends with Mark Wahlberg while making the movie.
VINCE: Tremendous friends. I love him like a brother, and I know he's even said to me that I'm his idol and his role model. He said, "I'm going to model myself as a parent after you." Mark and I have just the best personal relationship, off the field so to speak.
UGO: What was your first reaction when you heard that Mark was going to be playing you?
VINCE: Honestly, at the time I didn't know who Mark was. I called my buddy, Rocco and I said, "Yo, Rock, Mark Wahlberg is playing me in a movie." Rocco says, "Dirk Diggler?" I said, "What?" Rocco went on to say, "Dirk Diggler. He's in Boogie Nights. You never saw Boogie Nights?" I said "No, I've got nothing but Disney movies in my house. I've got two little kids." Rocco started to laugh and then said, "Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch." That's when it clicked, "Oh, the guy with the abs in the underwear commercial? The Calvin Klein guy, he's playing me?" I told my wife and we went out and rented all of his movies, and we sat down and had a Mark Wahlberg night. After the night was over, we loved him, especially in The Italian Job. He was great in The Italian Job, because I saw him as a contemporary. We met him for the first time in New York City, where he came up and he gave me a big hug. He had tears in his eyes, and he said, "I'm going to play you with enthusiasm, passion and integrity. I've never played a part about a guy that's still living, but I'm going to make you and Philadelphia proud." Then my wife grabbed him, she literally grabbed him, and she said, "You're going to have to lose a little weight. My husband was lean and mean," because he had just come off the set of Four Brothers and he was pretty buffed up. He looked at her and he said, "Who the heck's going to play you?" He started laughing and from that point on we've been the best of friends. He's been to my house, he's hung out with me and my family, he's just the nicest, nicest guy.

FX scores "Invincible" cable rights By Kimberly Nordyke
Source: Reuters/Hollywood Reporter
FX has bought exclusive cable rights to the Mark Wahlberg football feature "Invincible," a spokesman for the network said.
Sources said the four-year deal will see FX pay 10%-12% of domestic box office for the Disney release, which has earned $56.3 million in North American theaters after six weekends.
The FX spokesman confirmed the deal but declined comment on the terms of the agreement. Because of the Yom Kippur holiday, no one was available to confirm or deny at Buena Vista Television, the Disney unit handling the sale.
The PG-rated "Invincible," based on a true story, stars Mark Wahlberg as regular guy-turned-football pro Vince Papale and Greg Kinnear as former Philadelphia Eagles coach Dick Vermeil.
It's believed that FX will get the network window premiere of "Invincible" starting sometime in 2009, according to sources. Before that, pay TV rights to the movie will go to Starz .

Invincible Mark
Source: City Times
Mark Wahlberg came to Hollywood with the basic credentials to get started — a chiselled body and a brassy attitude. But the former underwear model and rapper has proven to be a versatile entertainer.
And now Wahlberg has established a mainstream acting career, with starring roles in films such as "Four Brothers," "Planet of the Apes" and "The Italian Job," which has a sequel in development. In his new movie, "Invincible," Wahlberg plays real-life football hero Vince Papale, a Philadelphia Eagles fan who tried out for the team during an open call in 1976. Greg Kinnear co-stars as the team's legendary coach, Dick Vermeil.
At 35, Boston-born Wahlberg continues to show his talent for commanding attention on the big screen. He will soon face his biggest test yet, sharing the screen in October with Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon in "The Departed," a crime thriller from director Martin Scorsese.
Vince Papale has said that after he saw you on the field once, he was not worried about how you would portray him in "Invincible."
Well actually, the first time he saw me on the field I pulled a little bit of a prank on him. I told him I couldn't run and I dropped every pass that they threw me. So he was a little freaked out at first. But I had grown up playing, I had just never played organised football. You know, I never put on the pads before I put on an NFL uniform, which was kind of cool.

Mark in OK Magazine - Sept 4th
Thanks to Erin and Sylvie of RobertWahlberg.com!
Funny they pick a gossip magazine like OK Magazine vs something like Vanity Fair.

Preview: Mark says that fatherhood is "one of the best things that's ever happened to me," but he hasn't made up his mind yet if he wants more kids.
"Yes and no," he ponders. "Not right away." A smile creeps onto his face and he changes his mind. "But my son and my daughter are so amazing, why not? I could have 10 more of those."
Of his 5-month old son, Mark proudly says, "I already call him the champ. I told him he's going to beat everybody. I told him he's going to be the next Tiger [Woods]. He can do it all! But I think my daughter is going to be the one that is going to play football and hockey. She's tough. She just wants to fight Daddy"
Come back for more this week.

Week 2 - Invincible #1 again at the box office
Reuters
The summer box office season in North America ended on an "Invincible" note during the U.S. Labor Day holiday weekend as the Mark Wahlberg football movie scored a second week at No. 1.
Walt Disney Co.'s (DIS.N: Quote, Profile, Research) feel-good drama sold $15.2 million worth of tickets during the four-day weekend, according to estimates issued on Monday. After 11 days in release, "Invincible" has earned $37.8 million.
New releases took the next two spots: the thriller "Crank" (Lionsgate) with $13 million, and the horror remake "The Wicker Man" (Warner Bros.) with $11.7 million.

Papale on Mark
Sports Illustrated
SI.com: So did Mark Wahlberg do Vince Papale justice in the film?
Papale: You know what? He might have even been better than what I was back then. He really pulled off some great stuff. He kept pushing the body doubles and the stunt doubles away. He would say, "I don't want them to come in with this wide shot. I want to make sure they're on me close the whole way. I'm going to do this whole thing." His athleticism, leadership and the way he caught the ball and moved his feet, the way he just picked things up so quickly was remarkable. And as an actor, well, he's an acclaimed renowned actor, so he just nailed it.
SI.com: Did you know who he was before?
Papale: I had no clue! Somebody told me I was going to meet him so we went to New York to have dinner with him at the Bryant Park Hotel in April, and I told my buddy Rocco, one of my paisans, "Yo, Rocco, I got this guy Mark Wahl, Wahl ..." and he's like, "Oh, my god! Dirk Diggler!" So I said, "What?" and he said, "Boogie Nights!" and I said, "Boogey who?" I had no idea. Afterward, I did some research and bought everything he had done, and then once I got to know him, it didn't make a difference what he did. Mark and I now have become very close. He just went at it and nailed the role. He told me he would play the role with enthusiasm, he would dedicate the role to me and make me proud and he did. I'm just so proud of him.
