John Singleton (2 Fast 2 Furious) has signed to direct and Mark Wahlberg is in talks to star in Four Brothers for Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Paramount Pictures. Dave Elliot and Paul Lovett are writing the film's script.

Last month, Singleton signed on to develop the video game Fear & Respect for Midway Games. Wahlberg is set to appear in Paramount's The Italian Job 2, which he opted to appear in over Lions Gate's The Black Dahlia, directed by Brian De Palma.

John Singleton has signed to direct and Mark Wahlberg is in negotiations to star in "Four Brothers" for Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Paramount Pictures. Last month, Singleton signed on to develop the video game "Fear & Respect" for Midway Games, in which Viacom CEO Sumner Redstone is the controlling shareholder. The video game is being developed by producer Christine Peters as a feature film for the Viacom-owned studio (HR 9/24). Wahlberg is set to appear in Paramount's "The Italian Job 2," which he opted to appear in over Lions Gate's "The Black Dahlia," directed by Brian De Palma. Singleton, who is repped by UTA, most recently directed "2 Fast 2 Furious." His credits include "Baby Boy," "Shaft" and "Boyz N the Hood." He also is repped by attorney Steve Barnes. Director John Singleton will helm Wahlberg in “Four Brothers”
“Boyz N the Hood” director John Singleton has been tapped to helm Paramount Pictures’ “Four Brothers,” reports Variety.
Scripted by David Elliot and Paul Lovett, the drama centers on four adopted brothers who come together to bury the woman who raised them. The siblings discover at the funeral that their mother may have been murdered.
Mark Wahlberg (“Planet of the Apes”) is reported to be in talks to star, while the studio and producers are also eyeing rapper/actor, Ice Cube (“Three Kings”) and Franky G (The Italian Job) to round out the cast.
Singleton, who’s also attached to Paramount's Midway videogame adaptation "Fear and Respect," is expected to start shooting “Brothers” soon as possible. The studio is trying to fast-track the film for a summer 2005 release date.
Wahlberg, who can currently be seen in theaters with “I Heart Huckabees,” is next expected to reprise his starring role in a sequel to "The Italian Job."
